Susan Gilster, Ph. D.
Consultant to Alzheimer’s and Long-term
Care facilities
Revolutionizing Long-term Care from the Inside Out
Warmth. Compassion. Adaptability. People before
policy.
Service above all else, to residents, families and employees.
These are the guiding principles Dr. Susan Gilster’s team followed
as they created the Alois Alzheimer Center, the first freestanding
facility in the United States exclusively dedicated to providing a
continuum of care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and
dementia. Under Dr. Gilster’s leadership, the Alois Center revolutionized
its industry from the inside out; over 20 years later, it is recognized
as the shining standard for long-term and Alzheimer’s residential
facilities.
Considered a trailblazer in her field, Dr. Gilster will transfer the
leadership skills and best practices that built the Alois Center into
an exemplary program to your organization. Her innovative ideas
about leadership, management, morale and resident care save facilities
millions of dollars, stem the tide of employee turnover, increase employee
loyalty and dedication to resident care, strengthen relationships with
and increase the satisfaction of resident families, and allow the patients
themselves to flourish.
Dr. Gilster’s consulting approach is based on a proprietary
healthcare leadership practice model: S.E.R.V.I.C.E, which stands for
Service, Education, Respect, Vision, Inclusion, Communication and Enrichment. The
S.E.R.V.I.C.E.™ model of care leadership will take your organization
from Chaos to Calm, using the same practices and values that created
the foundation for her success.
Since beginning her career as an intensive care nurse, and her path
has led her through every level of hands-on healthcare management.
As the Executive Director of the Alois Alzheimer Center, she is responsible
for the development and operations of the center itself; Dr. Gilster
concurrently serves as the executive director for the Alois Foundation,
a 501 © 3 non-profit foundation to fund Alzheimer’s disease
research and education. Dr. Gilster’s professional honors
include being named as the Outstanding Professional in the Field of
Aging, Cincinnati Health Care Hero, Fellow of the American College
of Health Administrators, Leadership Cincinnati, and appointment to
a Congressional Healthcare/Medicare Task Force from 1994-2004. Her
research, consulting and collaborative efforts have taken her around
the world, from Scotland to Australia to Argentina and beyond. As a heavily requested speaker at healthcare conventions and conferences,
